October 11,2012 : Young Investigators Meeting

Dear friends,

On behalf of the EORTC Melanoma Group (MG) and its Young Investigator Network (YIN), it is our pleasure to invite you to the fall meeting, to be held in Milan, Italy on the 11th, 12th and 13th of October 2012.

You can find the program and meeting information at: http://www.melanomagroup.eu/site/milano-2012.html

This meeting will have a special YIN session on Thursday the 11th of October, starting at 11am and followed by a social event in the evening.

Abstracts

We invite you to submit an abstract (deadline 24:00 CET on Friday the 21st of September) on ongoing research at your department for the EORTC MG meeting.
Abstracts will be selected for presentation during the YIN / ongoing research in our Institutes sessions. Young investigators belonging to one of the EORTC MG centers will be considered for selection. Notification on selection coupled with reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs (coach airfare / first class train) for the junior presenter will be made as soon as possible after Monday September 24th. Please register for the meeting and submit your abstracts online at http://www.melanomagroup.eu/site/milano-2012.html.
Translational research.

In 2011, the EORTC Melanoma Group sponsored 3 one-year Translation Research Fellowship programs. This year, we will receive an update on these studies at the meeting and discuss possible new projects.

We are looking to set up new translational research projects and a preliminary ‘brainstorming’ session will take place during the YIN meeting in Milan to discuss ideas. This should result in a draft of one or more projects that we as a network can work on in order to obtain funding by the group. The pigmentation project in which four different groups are currently participating is a successful example thereof. We are currently particularly interested in ideas related to validation of potential new biomarkers, and design of novel targeted therapies. Please come ready to discuss any projects you would like to propose.

We would encourage all MG members to pass this invitation on to young investigators and scientists in their institutions who might be interested in joining the melanoma YIN.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Milan!

Sincerely,

Alexander C.J. van Akkooi
